There are over 1,400 languages in Africa, more than 900 in America (North, Middle and South America), about 1,600 in Asia (excluding the ex USSR), some 1,200 in Oceania (Australia and the Pacific Islands), over 40 in Europe (excluding the ex USSR), and more than 100 in the ex USSR. A total of about 5,300 languages!

Additionally, according to some scholars, that number could actually reach up to 6,500 tongues (including languages and dialects or varieties).

U.S.A. and Canada have at least 200 Indian and Eskimo languages. Latin America has an estimate of 700 - 900. That makes about 1,200 native languages just in the Americas!
